The ultimate in silliness – flashmobbing
Tuesday, November 2nd, 2004Heard about this phenomenon from people in Habakkuk over half a year ago. I first thought that only honkies are crazy enough to do this.
How wrong I was.
I found a flashmob group that operates in Sydney. Here‘s the link.
The basic idea is, you turn up to a specified place in the city and look for the organisers of the event. Once you’ve found them, they hand you a slip of paper, and you are to follow the instructions on it.
Because there is often a “mob” of people doing this, the result is around 5-10 minutes of hilarity, coupled with a quick disperse, with everyone in the mob dispersing and going back to their regular lives.
Go look at some of the photos, it’s a combination of disturbing and entertaining.
Bill the Cynic
Saturday, October 16th, 2004cyn·i·cism
An attitude of scornful or jaded negativity, especially a general distrust of the integrity or professed motives of others.
Back in high school (especially around year 11), I was often referred to as a cynic, and even had people say it in front of my face. Stuff like:
“Why are you so cynical?”
“Can’t you look at it in another perspective?”
were common questions asked of me. I was pretty much rid of it by the time I got to uni and throughout my uni life.
Upon a moment of quiet reflection (which consisted of a 5 minute walk and then a 5 minute drive from Eastwood to uni), I’ve come to the realisation that with all the stuff that has happened this year, this cynicism has found me again (or maybe I have found it). Not only that, time and time again my cynical views/predictions have been proven right. With each “proof”, it strengthens the argument that this new cynical view is in fact the correct one.
Maybe it’s not cynicism, maybe it’s actually knowing the truth about people, and of the world.
To Mr Cynicism: WELCOME BACK BABY!
