The deal is, a NTSC Wii can play other NTSC games (ie. Jap/US) while Pal Wiis can only play Pal games (ie. Aus/Europe). Of course, this includes full DVD+-R/RW compatibility. There are some exceptions where cross-region compatibility will work, but they're rare. Because I wanted to play Jap games as well as English ones, I had to get an NTSC Wii (bought from ebay and shipped from HK). As for getting a Wii modded in Aus, check out http://www.ozmodchips.com/. They seem to know what they're doing. The chip is only $50. If I recall correctly you've got some electronic skills so you can probably do the soldering yourself.
